NAY NEY mahtab

Instrument: NAY

NAY

NAY or NEY, NAI (per. نی) is a Persian flute which has been used in Middle East music for 5 000 years! You can see it in the wall paintings in Pyramids of Giza. Nay is made of reed and traditionally has 6 holes in the upper part for fingers and one hole at the bottom for a thumb. The Arabic version of this instrument has 7 holes in the upper part and one hole in the bottom part. The length of nay may also vary – the ones from Turkey or Egypt are shorter than the one from Persia.
